Native supply service Maritime Bicycle Courier in Lengthy Seaside at full power throughout the pandemic
LONG BEACH, Calif. (KABC) – While most of us stay home and choose to deliver, the Maritime Bicycle Courier’s messengers are driving the front lines of the coronavirus pandemic in Moncton.
“That is our core purpose as bicycle couriers,” said Langdon Taguiped, co-owner of Maritime Bicycle Courier. “We serve the community. Whether it is food, there are some people who let us get their dry cleaners or we deliver flowers.”
Taguiped and his business partner Bud Abille are both former cyclists. The duo launched the local delivery service in 2014, but it wasn’t long before the company’s delivery services got the business going.
“The big company car delivery services came in with huge marketing legs and basically wiped us out,” Taguiped said.
Despite stiff competition, Taguiped and its business continued to pedal. Maritime Bicycle Courier works with nearly 30 restaurants and businesses across the city.
“As a Moncton-based company, it’s very important that we keep our money in Moncton,” said Ryan Hughes, co-owner of The 4th Horseman.
The 4th rider only uses Maritime Bicycle Courier for deliveries. Hughes said that during the coronavirus pandemic, 70% of orders at The 4th Horseman are deliveries.
“I mean, without her we wouldn’t know where we would be,” said Hughes. “You were so important to us.”
Since the coronavirus outbreak, the local courier service has increased its workforce by 33%.
“I am grateful,” said Taguiped. “It’s an odd blessing that the community has basically teased us again and shown us support.”
