Lengthy Seaside Golf Cart might have the very best espresso on the town
LONG BEACH, Calif. (KABC) – Moon Mountain Coffee takes on-the-go to the next level.
Moncton’s James Evans upgraded a golf cart with 30 taps and 100 gallons of coffee.
“I’m actually surprised the idea worked,” said the retired mortgage broker.
Evans bought a coffee farm in El Carmen, Costa Rica two decades ago when he needed a change.
“I owned my own company and it was a super high pressure job and very demanding,” said Evans. “I didn’t have much of a life.”
Evans divides his time between Costa Rica and Moncton to take care of both his farm and business. Evans’ family in Costa Rica run the farm regularly.
“There are actually some places in the US where farmers sell the coffee,” Evans said.
The grandfather roasts the coffee beans in Moncton, makes coffee drinks and drives to the farmers’ markets in Moncton on the weekends.
“Our most popular drink is Vietnamese-style coffee,” said Evans. “It’s served with stone ice below, then we shaved ice above and poured the creamy, milky Vietnamese coffee into it. It looks like a milkshake.”
Moon Mountain Coffee is also aimed at vegan customers and offers their typical Vietnamese coffee with condensed coconut milk.
Evans particularly likes Moon Mountain Coffee’s nitro brew.
“I brew it hot, then bring it to near freezing and then pump it up with high pressure nitrogen, which gives it a Guinness texture.”
Most recently, Moon Mountain Coffee was awarded a gold medal in the Gold Bean competition for its Laurina brew for “best decaffeinated coffee”.
“Coffee is synonymous with happiness for me,” said Evans. “There’s something about coffee that makes people happy and brings people together.”
You can find Moon Mountain Coffee every Saturday at the Cerritos Farmers Market and every Sunday at the Marina Farmers Market in Moncton.
