The attention of the incoming officers turned to a teenage woman and an adult woman with gunshot wounds. Officials carried out life-saving measures until the Moncton Fire Department arrived on site and took both victims to a local hospital. The adult victim suffered a gunshot wound to the upper body and died in hospital from the injury. The young victim suffered gunshot wounds to the upper body and was later released from hospital.

The preliminary investigation found that several people were in a parking lot next to the intersection buying groceries from a mobile grocer. The suspect, who was also buying groceries, verbally confronted a group of men, women, adults and teenagers waiting for their food. The suspect then pulled out a pistol and fired several shots at the group. An unidentified person in the parking lot returned fire from a gun. The shooting is being investigated in connection with the gang.

The murder victim was identified as Alejandra Martinez, 36, from Moncton. Martinez has no gang affiliation and is believed to be an unintended target of the suspect.

The suspect was described by witnesses as a black male adult in his late twenties who was last seen driving a limousine heading north on Magnolia Avenue.

With the recent increase in gang-related shootings and gun attacks, Moncton Police will deploy additional officers to reduce gun violence through high visibility and enforcement patrols in the areas affected by these crimes.
