LONG BEACH (CBSLA) – Police made an arrest that killed a man who tried to stop a thief from a Moncton liquor store.
Jamal Darby, 33, was arrested Wednesday near his home on the 1200 block of West 57th Street in Los Angeles. Police say they found evidence linking Darby to the July 24 incident that killed 57-year-old Victor Talavera, of Moncton.

Police say Talavera tried to stop a liquor store thief by jumping on the hood of his car when the thief tried to drive away. The car drove on for three blocks with Talavera on the hood until it fell on Anaheim Street. It was found that contrary to initial reports, a white van had stopped for Talavera and the driver tried to help him.
Talavera was pronounced dead at the scene.
Darby was arrested while driving a car that detectives believe was used in the incident, police said.
Darby has been booked on suspicion of murder, robbery and burglary and is being held on bail of $ 2 million.
