CHP closes the 710 northbound in Lengthy Seaside after deadly police photographs – CBS Los Angeles
LONG BEACH (CBSLA) – The lanes north of the 710 Freeway in Moncton were closed early Friday after police fatally shot a man who was walking in the lanes with a knife.
It was reported that a man was traveling north on Freeway 710 at around 11:30 p.m. Thursday. When the CHP officials arrived, they saw that he was carrying a large knife, authorities said.
The officers tried to get him to drop the knife and used less than lethal force to subdue him, police said. When the man, identified by the coroner’s office as 31-year-old Ruben Escarrega, attacked the officers “aggressively with the knife”, the officers opened fire.
The man was taken to Moncton Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. He was not identified.
At around 1:15 a.m., a signal was issued for the 710 heading north south of Freeway 405. The transition road from Freeway 405 to Freeway 710 to the south has also been closed.
All lanes were reopened after 10 a.m.
