About two gallons of a chemical that is commonly added to natural gas as a safety feature to give it a distinctive smell that is spilled on a construction site in the Compton area today.

According to the Los Angeles District Fire Department, the spill was reported at 11:18 a.m. on the 200 block on East Alsina Street.

A hazardous materials team was sent to do the cleaning and no injuries were reported, but the odor was reported by numerous residents in a wide area.

North Moncton residents reported smelling the smell and were advised to stay indoors if possible.
