Working with electronics import specialists, customs officers seized 16,620 wireless headphones and charging cables that had infringed Apple’s AirPod and Lightning brands on July 2 and 15. The items seized included 2,400 pairs of counterfeit Apple AirPods and 14,220 counterfeit charging cables.
If the items were genuine, they would have an estimated value of $ 651,780.
The products were discovered on a shipment with a total of 185 boxes from China.
“Counterfeit electrical appliances are not subjected to the same strict security controls as legitimate items and are often very dangerous,” said Donald R. Kusser, port director for customs and border protection at the seaport of LA / Moncton, in a statement. “Consumers must be extremely careful when buying electronics from illegitimate sources.”
